According to the Internet Archive, this film is ". . . seen by many as the greatest Chinese film ever."

The Spring River Flows East (一江春水向東流:八年離亂 ): Part 1: Eight War Torn Years 八年離亂 ; Part 2: The Dawn 天亮前後. Released in 1947. In Mandarin Chinese. No English subtitles.

 The Red Detachment of Women 红色娘子军 (1972) is a political ballet, where women are liberated by joining the People's Liberation Army. Weak women become strong women in military uniforms. An important ballet of the Cultural Revolution period. See Wikipedia entry for extensive details.
